We seek a highly skilled and motivated Senior DBA to grow with us as a Team Lead, Platform DBA. You will play a critical role in ensuring our database systems’ optimal performance, security, and availability. As a key leader in our Platform Engineering team, you will be responsible for guiding a team of engineers in managing our complex data environment, ensuring seamless operations and supporting the growth of our global payroll platform.
The ideal candidate is a technical expert and leader responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and performance optimisation of CloudPays database systems. This role encompasses both hands-on database administration and team leadership responsibilities. You will manage and guide a team of engineers in managing shared structured and unstructured data, ensuring data integrity, security, availability, and scalability.
Daily Duties and Main Responsibilities will include:
Database Administration:
• Architecture and Design: Design and implement robust, scalable, and secure database architectures to support CloudPay’s data needs.
• Database Management: Install, configure, maintain, and upgrade database systems (e.g., relational, NoSQL, graph databases).
• Performance Optimisation: Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement optimisations to ensure optimal efficiency.
• Backup and Recovery: Develop and execute backup and recovery strategies to protect data from loss or corruption.
• Security: Implement and enforce database security measures to safeguard sensitive data.
• Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve database issues in a timely and effective manner.
Team Leadership:
• Team Management: Lead, mentor, and coach a team of database engineers, providing technical guidance and career development support.
• Project Management: Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of database-related projects.
• Resource Allocation: Allocate and manage resources effectively to ensure optimal team productivity.
• Collaboration: Collaborate with other platform engineering teams, application developers, and stakeholders to ensure seamless integration and data access.
Attributes and Experience Required:
• Proven track record of success in database administration, ideally in a platform engineering environment.
• Strong expertise in various database technologies (e.g.,PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Cassandra).
• Experience with cloud-based database services (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure Cosmos DB).
• Experience leading and mentoring a team of technical professionals.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
• Strong SQL and database programming skills.
• Knowledge of database performance tuning and optimisation techniques.
• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
• Understanding of data modelling, data governance, and data security best practices
